Shopping Tours in Egypt

Enjoying shopping tours in Egypt is one of the most exciting activities after exploring ancient attractions. The country offers tens of vibrant bazaars, open-air markets, and unique shops. Among the most fascinating is the Souk Al-Khayamiya, also called the Tentmakers Bazaar.

This bazaar is located across the street from Bab Zuweila, behind Cairo’s historic southern walls. Many markets once operated in this area, but the tentmakers are the only ones that remain active today. After visiting Bab Zuweila, a narrow alley covered by a high roof leads you directly into the Souk. Here, merchants specialize in textile goods, offering thousands of items to explore and buy during your vacation in Egypt.

What You Can Find in Souk Al-Khayamiya

At the Souk, you will discover beautiful wall hangings, colorful tapestries, carpets, and canvases. Each item reflects the Islamic era through intricate designs. Traditionally, the tents sold here served for funerals, weddings, holiday celebrations, and shop openings.

Souk Al-Khayamiya remains the last covered market in Cairo that is still in use. The crafts produced here are highly valuable and of excellent quality, yet affordable. Many textile pieces cost less than similar items in Khan El-Khalili Bazaar.

While walking through Cairo’s historic neighborhoods, you might notice these tents and hear the vibrant music and celebration sounds that echo through the streets of Old Cairo. Visiting this market offers a unique cultural experience and a chance to take home authentic Egyptian souvenirs.
